Italian Lemon Styled Shoot
Updated: May 27, 2019
Polished Planning's summer styled shoot came and went so quickly! Looking back on the photos has me dreaming of another trip to Italy; fun fact: the shoot was actually inspired by my first Italian vacation! Winding through the tight roads along the edge of mountains, tasting fresh citrus from a roadside stand, taking photos with football- sized lemons... somebody cue my swooning, please! I was sure to include elements of Limoncello, authentic Italian pottery, olive oil, and of course lemons. The color palette consisted of lemon yellow, cobalt blue, leafy green, gold, and cream.
When I decided to transform my memories into a styled shoot, I knew there was only one venue that would be perfect, and that's Aristide in Mansfield! The moment you step on the grounds, you're transported to another world. The Tuscan theming is right on point, from the lion head fountain, to the crawling ivy, to the exemplary stonework. One of my favorite areas of this venue is this "secret garden", as I call it. It's an area that's somewhat hidden from the main areas of the venue- perfect for romantic photos that need that extra feeling of privacy.
The feeling of Tuscany couldn't be stronger with these gorgeous windows and terra-cotta roof. This view is everyone's first impression upon driving up; not bad, right? Natalie Keeton, owner of Wondery Photography, showed up early, when the light was just right on this side of the building.
Walking up gives me a little reminder of a lovely place in Italy where we had a Limoncello tasting!
As I suggest to clients, choosing a dress that's right for the venue is key. De Ma Fille in Fort Worth knew just the gown for this shoot! Our model, Kristin, was very petite so we actually had to clamp the dress in the back; you'd never know, right?
Jennifer Trotter, owner of Lip Service Makeup, provided flawless hairstyling, and incredible "natural beauty" makeup for Kristin. Jennifer is a master of her craft and has such a talent for executing the perfect look for every skin tone and type!
This soft and stunning bouquet was created by Rachel Ciastko, owner of Alba Dahlia Floral. Check out her fireplace masterpiece in the gallery below!
One of my favorite elements from the shoot was the olive oil tasting station. The table and accessories are available to rent from Gold Dust Event Co, and everything blended together so well. The lace actually belonged to my husband's grandmother, so we were sure to be extra careful!
Did you know that of the olive oil produced in Italy, they keep the best, most pure oil for themselves, and export the rest?
Another element that I'm crazy about is paper goods and custom signage! Everything Smitten created this stunning sign for the shoot, which really captured the cobalt blue. Paired with a stand and some versatile crates from Gold Dust Event Co, it creates the perfect welcome for guests. Everything Smitten also provided the beautiful gold calligraphy on the invitation suite, another custom sign, as well as the handmade place cards!
You can't have a wedding without a cake, right? This beauty was made by Alison Hickman, owner of Sweet Treats. She captured the watercolor look that I really wanted, and paired with Gold Dust Event Co's massive cake stand- instant wow factor!
The pottery piece that is holding the cake slicer was handmade in Positano, Italy, for my Aunt Connie. She had returned from Positano just a few weeks before the shoot and graciously allowed me to borrow a few pieces! For safety purposes, they each had their own suitcase, complete with excessive amounts of bubble wrap and beach towels!
Fun fact: the tabletop signage translates to "You are the star of my sky". Sigh....
Invitations and paper goods really set the tone for a wedding. Paper Affair Dallas incorporated the rich Italian-style designs that you'd normally see on tiles. Adding in a hint of our lemon theme and roughing up the edges a bit made this suite... pretty sweet! I was blown away by the custom design they came up with! The tabletop menus, pictured in the gallery below, carried over the same look.
We really were whisked away to Italy for a day with this incredibly fun shoot! Such a talented group of wedding vendors came together to not only create a photoshoot, but also inspire a feeling.
